Control Cortisol by Chilling Out and Lose Fat

Stress works against you in many ways.  It can be a huge barrier to losing weight, and can even be a factor in weight gain.  Modern life sets you up to be stressed:  You have to get up early to head to work, but first drop the kids off at school.  Then it’s off to meet deadlines, check emails, attend meetings, and deal with whatever else is thrown your way.  I’m stressed out just thinking about it!

When you’re stressed, your body releases a hormone called cortisol.  Some of you may be producing cortisol all day long, which can make you gain weight or halt your weight loss dead in its tracks.

The good news is that, by eating throughout out the day as well as by taking small ‘chill’ breaks, you can keep your cortisol levels in check and your mood high.

You don’t even need much spare time to stay calm, cool, and collected.  Even just a five-minute walk can release stress.  And that’s an imperative part of optimal self-care, one of the cornerstones of Eating Free.  So “take five” a few times each day and you’ll stay on the road to success.

To Do Today:

  • Schedule a five-minute walk (or two…or three) today to relax and unwind.
